HE IS RISEN INDEED!

The Resurrection 24  But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.   2  And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,   3  but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.   4  While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.   5  And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?   6  He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,   7  that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”   8  And they remembered his words, 9  and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10  Now it was Mary ...

Proverbs 31

Proverbs 31:1–31 (ESV): The Words of King Lemuel 31 The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him:   2  What are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my womb?  What are you doing, son of my vows?   3  Do not give your strength to women,  your ways to those who destroy kings.   4  It is not for kings, O Lemuel,  it is not for kings to drink wine,  or for rulers to take strong drink,   5  lest they drink and forget what has been decreed  and pervert the rights of all the afflicted.   6  Give strong drink to the one who is perishing,  and wine to those in bitter distress;   7  let them drink and forget their poverty  and remember their misery no more.   8  Open your mouth for the mute,  for the rights of all who are destitute.   9  Open your mouth, judge righteously,  defend the rights of the poo...

My Help Comes From The LORD

Psalm 121 (ESV): 121 A Song of Ascents.   1  I lift up my eyes to the hills.  From where does my help come?   2  My help comes from the Lord,  who made heaven and earth.   3  He will not let your foot be moved;  he who keeps you will not slumber.   4  Behold, he who keeps Israel  will neither slumber nor sleep.   5  The Lord is your keeper;  the Lord is your shade on your right hand.   6  The sun shall not strike you by day,  nor the moon by night.   7  The Lord will keep you from all evil;  he will keep your life.   8  The Lord will keep  your going out and your coming in  from this time forth and forevermore.

The Man of Lawlessness

2 Thessalonians 2:1–12 (ESV): 1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.  Who is this text describing?    Typically, expositors of this text point to the Antichrist.     They would be partially correct.    It also points to the Elijah figure in Malachi 3 & 4.    How so? He takes his seat in God’s temple.     At the hear of Malachi’s prophecy is the i...

Spiritual Warfare 101: How To Conquer God

Conquer God?!  That’s impossible! Is it?  Strictly speaking, since we view God, correctly, as infinite, eternal, & unchangeable, we view God as unconquerable.   Thar said, there is a sense in which, as f we lay down the tools of warfare with which we fight God, we can conquer God.   How so? Matthew 22:34–40 (ESV): But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”  Romans 13:8–10 (ESV): Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfil...

For Us & Our Children Forever

Deuteronomy 29:29 (ESV): The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.  Deuteronomy 6:4–9 (ESV): Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.  Public Education is an issue in NC right now. Apparently the majority party in the State legislature want to expand the school voucher program & remove income caps altogether, which means a program originall...

The Narrow Way/Path

Let’s take a look at the Narrow Path & the Broad Way in Matthew’s Gospel.   Matthew 7:12–14 (ESV): So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.    13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.  These words continue the train of thought that’s taken up in Matthew 7:1 - 6 Matthew 7:1–6 (ESV): Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and th...
