For Us & Our Children Forever

Deuteronomy 29:29 (ESV): The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Deuteronomy 6:4–9 (ESV): Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Public Education is an issue in NC right now. Apparently the majority party in the State legislature want to expand the school voucher program & remove income caps altogether, which means a program originally begun as a means to assist low income families is now open to people across the economic board.  This also sound to some people like yet another attempt to further their agenda to privatize education to individuals & corporations that see the education system as a money making opportunity.  They are also doing this while stoking public outrage about alleged indoctrination of NC students while simultaneously passing legislation that makes Dick & Jane books illicit since the law targets the topics of human sexuality/sex/gender - not LGBTQ content in particular.

1 - According to the Bible, education is a community wide affair.    Moses spoke directly to the people as a whole.  If your rational involves depriving children of knowledge & life experience of which you disapprove, the Bible allows the community the right to address this issue & even ignore your concerns if those concerns are incongruent with God’s expressed moral will.

2 - The people of Ancient Israel were supposed to work together to educate their children. Private education was both allowed & necessary - and so was public education that ran through the levitical priesthood & the community farming & artisan collectives.  The priesthood was supported by both voluntary & mandatory means.  The priests & their support staff were the guardians of literacy, literature, medicine (rudimentary as it was), & justice - all in addition to what we today would understand as ordinary ecclesiastical duties & functions.

3 - The Bible is very clear about giving money to the rich at the expense of the poor.

Proverbs 22:16 (ESV): Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth,

or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.

The State Constitution says that all of rights come from God.  Shouldn’t we ask, seek, know, understand, & apply what God says about these issues?
