HE IS RISEN INDEED!

The Resurrection 24  But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.   2  And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,   3  but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.   4  While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.   5  And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?   6  He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,   7  that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”   8  And they remembered his words, 9  and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10  Now it was Mary ...

was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written,

“ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,

“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’

and

“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ”

Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God

and him only shall you serve.’ ”

returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’ ” And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.”

And Jesus answered him, “It is written,

“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God,

and him only shall you serve.’ ”

And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written,

“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,

to guard you,’

and

“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ”

Witnesses & Victory

And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.
