Pentecost Reading: Acts 2

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost 2  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.   2  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.   3  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.   4  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues [ a ]  as the Spirit enabled them. 5  Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6  When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7  Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?   8  Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?   9  Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadoci...

144,000

And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,

12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,

12,000 from the tribe of Gad,

12,000 from the tribe of Asher,

12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,

12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,

12,000 from the tribe of Simeon,

12,000 from the tribe of Levi,

12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,

12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,

12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,

12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin

Who are they, what or who do they represent?

1. God
2. God’s names
3. The whole of the created order
4. The 12 tribes of Israel
5. The nations of the Earth
6. The Heavenly Nations
7. The nations below the Earth
8. The 12 Elders
9. The Angelic nations & orders

Note: Dan is not among them & is conspicuous by his absence because of his idolatry (very like the 1/3 of the angels who fell from heaven, yet he is represented by the other tribes & is likely with them, very like the way angels are present with us on Earth.

  1. The Prophets
  2. The Apostles
  3. The Kings

Dan is conspicuous by his absence, most likely due to his idolatry.   In that regard he is like the fallen angeks who were cast out of heaven.   Yet he is believed to be among the 144,000 which corresponds to the presence of angels on the Earth.

He also represents the Reprobate in any given age.   Only one tribe is openly refused admission to the roster, corresponding to the one man cast into Outer Darkness in Matthew 22.
