Labor Day PSA
Today is the day the chattering class likes to remind us that Labor Day is a communist holiday with roots in socialism.
By way of reply: Why would the Bible teach rugged American individualism? The Bible was written in the Ancient Near East & the age of the early Roman Empire. In those days people lived under the jackbooted heels of any number of despostic governments. The Bible does prohibit despotism outright. Like everything else it regulates despotism by reminding rulers that they shouldn’t be in the business of gathering too many horses for themselves nor oppressing people by taking them back to Egypt. (Deuteronomy 17). It provides for both individual ownership/exercise of dominion (Leviticus 25) & communal ownership/dominion (Genesis 1 & 2). People had to work together under horrific conditions.
In addition, so what if Labor Day itself comes to us via people with Socialism or even Communism in their eyes. The Bible teaches the God’s people are authorized to prophetically repackage the World’s ideas & deploy them against the World. The binding rite in Ezekiel’s hands is a prophetic answer to the same rite done as idolatry $ witchcraft/sorcery in the hands of the Witch of Endor.
Shalom, & “Go and sin no more.”
