Conflict Resolution / Mediation : 1 Corinthians 6:1 - 11 In Action

How To Mediate Conflicts Using the Bible As Our Guide

  • {{{{Sam, Ryan, David, Luke, Nathaniel, & Kyle}}}} are going to a formal gala with a number of men & women who are part of a cohort of people learning about diplomacy & espionage.   This is a test of what they have learned thus far.
  • Their task as they move toward conducting the perfect heist is simple: They must designate one or more procurement specialists/purchasing agents to successfully procure & purchase 2 brand new sets of roommates/stoolies (out of a specified pool of candidates) & gift them to one or more of the real &/or perceived governing triads in their Cabal by the specified time on the Checklist.    The individuals procured out of the candidate list might or might not prove to be quislings for {{{{Sam, Ryan, David, Luke, Nathaniel, & Kyle}}}}*

These are the men in Unit 1 in relation to each other.   They are all co-equal & have somewhat different ideas/perspectives on who to choose & deploy.

                          Kyle  —— Sam

                           |.  \.            /. |.

 |.    \.        /.   |.

                 Nate\.--/.  Ryan

                   |.       \. /.       |.

                   |.       /. \.       |.

                   Luke —David

In this configuration, if the Men disapprove of their procurement agents’ choice of roommates/stoolies/quislings for one or both of Kyle, Nathaniel, Luke, David, Ryan, & Sam’s real or perceived intra-cabal triads,  who among their closest associates might be best able to mediate their dispute &/or cast a 7th vote in order to break the tie/stalemate?

To help them find a mediator:

    • Step 1 (Shema & Historical Prologue)
      • Carefully & prayerfully research their covenant names. Know who these Men are as well as who God is & how God perceives of them, they perceive of God, & how they perceive of each other.  Remind them of who they are & who they represent to God, the world, & each other.
    • Step 2 (General Stipulations)
      • Consult the applicable Scripture(s) for abiding principles as to God’s Moral Law & Gospel.
    • Step 3 (Specific Stipulations)
      • If possible &/or if necessary, research the history of their disputations & look for what amounts to a legal precedent.
    • Step 4 (Document Clause, Witnesses)
      • Depending on the situation at hand (ie how deeply divided the 6 Men are), without infantilizing them, remind them that they have the tools they need to come to their own successful resolution themselves or cast the deciding vote for them if, for whatever reason, they remain divided & a decision must be made by the prescribed deadline.
    • Step 5 (Covenant Renewal & Victory Statement)
      • Carefully & prayerfully help the men renew covenant & move forward confident that that they are able to move forward successfully.
  • Their mediator should follow the same or very similar procedure in helping them resolve their larger dispute over their gift(s) to their real &/or perceived rivals.

Result

The diagram tells us something about who these men are & how they relate to each other / thinks as regards this decision.

  • Kyle & Sam think alike.
  • Nate & Ryan think alike.
  • Luke & David think alike.
  • Kyle, Nate, & Luke think similarly along the vertical axis but are less similar to each other than they are with their horizontal counterparts.
  • Luke thinks like both Sam & David more than he does with Ryan, Nathaniel, & Kyle.
  • David thinks like Kyle & Luke more than he does Sam, Ryan, & Nathaniel.
  • Nathoniel & Ryan are the glue that holds them together.
  • Therefore, whoever their mediator is ought to be someone who can harmonize all 6 men &/or break them apart & either reconfigure them altogether or move them to reconfigure on their own.
