Covenant Theology in Outline Form - Part 22: The Book of Exodus

Exodus

Exodus can be outlined into 4 Sections, the first 3 of which of which are perichoretic with each other.

Part 1

  • Preamble (1:1 - 7)
  • Historical Prologue (1:8 - 4:30)
  • General (3:1 - 4:30)
  • Specific Stipulations (5:1 - 12:42)
  • Renewal, Document Clause (12:43 - 13:16)
  • Witnesses (13:17 - 14:31)
  • Victory Statement (15:1 - 21)

Part 2

  • Preamble (15:1 - 21)
  • Historical Prologue (15:22 - 19:25)
  • General Stipulations (20:1 - 17)
  • Specific Stipulations (20:18 - 23:33)
  • Renewal, Document Clause, Witnesses, & Victory Statement (24:1 - 18)

Part 3

  • Preamble & Historical Prologue (24:1-18)
  • General Stipulations & Specific Stipulations (25:1 - 28:43)
  • Renewal, Document Clause (29: 1 -
  • Witnesses (29:1 - 31:18)
  • Victory Statement (32: 1 - 35)

Part 4

  • Preamble (33:1 - 3)
  • Historical Prologue (33:4 - 34:9)
  • General Stipulations &
  • Specific Stipulations (34:10 - 40:15)
  • Renewal, Document Clause, & Witnesses (40:16 - 33)
  • Victory Statement (40:34 - 38)

Part 4 seems to represent a clear & clean break in the text that judicially emphasizes monotheism’s triumph over polytheism & the LORD’s desire to set Israel on a new path home — a path centered around His control, authority, & presence — not that of any pseudodeity/pseudodeities.
