Tackling Tradition 94: 2 John 10 & 11

Accordings to those who believe that baking the cake, attending the wedding, &tc     is a sin, does 2 John 10 - 11 teach that doing so is a sin?   4  I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father.  5  And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we ihave had from the beginning—that we love one another.  6  And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.  7  For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.  8  Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward.  9  Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, doe...

Nicene Subordination & Its Ethical Results

Adherents to the Nicene Creed will claim that God the Son is not inferior.   However, when you think about what the Creed actually says, the Son & Spirit are originate & derivative whereas Father is not, which, taken to its logical end, results in a hierarchical relationship between the Father & the Son as to the economic Trinity & when applied to ethics results in misogyny & all manner of equivalent prejudices.

How so?

  • What is the purpose of the created order according to Romans 1:20?

To testify to the existence, INVISIBLE attributes of God, & to God’s authority.

  • Why is God’s wrath revealed from heaven?

Because people have (since the Fall) been deliberately suppressing the truth about God’s existence, INVISIBLE attributes, & authority by way of substituting the VISIBLE attributes of the created order, especially those of people & animals.

How did people in the ancient world wind up with idols that looked like people & animals?

They looked to the created order & used its VISIBLE attributes as the basis of their theology, philosophy, & ethics.

  • What sort of theology, philosophy, & ethics?

According to the text of Romans 1, worship & worship ethics, sexual ethics, & justice in general.

  • How so?

Rather than look to God (who has no sex, no race, no gender, no sexuality, &tc) they deliberately & willfully looked to the created order & reasoned accordingly.

  • When you use the (alleged) attributes of the created order to do ethical reasoning, justice itself is deeply affected.

This has multiple applications.

Eve, having been taken from Adam, is interpreted to mean Eve was derived from Adam —- thus Adam’s authority supercedes hers.

Likewise, Nicene Subordinationism means the Son & Spirit are originate as to the Immanent Trinity.   Ergo, despite the protestations of those who affirm this view, their  authority is derivative as as to the economic Trinity insofar as they would have none apart from the Father as a result of their essence & attributes being derived from that of the Father as to the immanent Trinity.

Thus in Ethics:

  • Natural = Male Dominance/Hegemony + Unnatural = Egalitarianism = Misogyny

  • Natural = White/Caucasian + Unnatural = Anything else = Racism

  • Natural = Heteronormative +Unnatural = Homosexual = Homophobia

  • Natural = Non-Jewish + Unnatural = theJewish

In other words, what you believe about God affects what you believe about other people, the animals, & the world around you, which affects how you behave in relation to God, to everyone & everything else? & even yourself, regardless of whether or not your reasoning process begins with God’s invisible attributes or begins with the attributes of the create.d order & it’s members.   If you begin with a false premise, it’s possible to wind up with an errant result, which is why it’s important to accurately understand God, the Creeds & Confessions, & the Bible (especially God & the Bible), & to learn from them in order to understand what theologians have taught & believed as a matter of Historical Theology. By understanding the mistakes made by the writers & teachers of the past & present, we can correct their & our errors, reform faith & practice, & work both individually & collectively toward a better tomorrow.

  • Why do civilizations rise & fall, according to the Bible?

According to Romans 1, people suppress the truth about God’s invisible attributes & authority, substituting their own ideas drawn from the attributes of people, animals, & creeping things, then the reason accordingly & wind up with mistaken beliefs about God & the created order, then start behaving accordingly.   If the LORD allows it to continue long enough, the wheel turns & then it becomes a cycle of systemic & systematic oppression that destroys the people, the animals, & the even the environment.

In addition, even if they get their overall reasoning process correct (ie reasoning from God’s attributes  Tto ethics & justice), if their theology about God’s attributes is mistaken, then the results can be the same as the results of a generallye  creation centered reasoning process.

The Son & Spirit are not subordinate to the Father. Neither are They originate nor derivative.

This is the Way!  This is our prayer!

O LORD, Hear our prayer(s)!
