Polygamy

Polygamy!    Is it morally acceptable to have 2 wives? To answer this question, we need to draw a proper distinction between that which is moral & that which is wise.  Matthew 5:27–28 (ESV): You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. As you can see, in the Sermon on the Mount, adultery is not defined merely by the fact that he or she is not your spouse. Adultery is defined by lustful intent. What is lust? Lust is, at its root, the failure to love God over & above everything & everyone else & your neighbor before yourself.  Loving yourself more than God & others is definitional to lust, & lust is what underwrites sexual sin - not the mere sex/gender of your target &/or the lack of marriage certificate.    Using Matt. 5:19 - or any text - to move the moral grounds of moral guil...

Psalm 118

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever 118  Oh give thanks to the  Lord , for he is good;      for his steadfast love endures forever! 2  Let Israel say,      “His steadfast love endures forever.” 3  Let the house of Aaron say,      “His steadfast love endures forever.” 4  Let those who fear the  Lord  say,      “His steadfast love endures forever.” 5  Out of my distress I called on the  Lord ;      the  Lord  answered me and set me free. 6  The  Lord  is on my side; I will not fear.      What can man do to me? 7  The  Lord  is on my side as my helper;      I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. 8  It is better to take refuge in the  Lord      than to trust in man. 9  It is better to take refuge in the  ...

Jeremiah 5:14 - 31 & Romans 12:9 - 13 1- 14

Jeremiah 5:14 - 31 14  Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of hosts: “Because you have spoken this word, behold, I am making my words in your mouth a fire,     and this people wood, and the fire shall consume them. 15  Behold, I am bringing against you     a nation from afar, O house of Israel, declares the Lord. It is an enduring nation;     it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know,     nor can you understand what they say. 16  Their quiver is like an open tomb;     they are all mighty warriors. 17  They shall eat up your harvest and your food;     they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds;     they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; your fortified cities in which you trust     they shall...

Revelation 9:1 - 11 & Jeremiah 5:4 - 31

9  And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. 2  He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft.  3  Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. 4  They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.  5  They were allowed to torment them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings someone.  6  And in those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them. 7  In appearanc...

How God Gets The Last Laugh

Genesis 4 And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.  20  Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.  21  His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.  22  Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. 23  Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;     you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: I have killed a man for wounding me,     a young man for striking me. 24  If Cain's revenge is sevenfold,     then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold.” On the face of it, Lamech, considered as a son of Cain sounds like a real piece of work, doesn’t he?     Like his great-grandfather, Cain, he comes across as a violent man prone to injustice.     ...
