Infinite Diversity Infinite Combinations

For the past 2 or 3 weeks, the Christian Internet/Social Media has been abuzz with chatter about the Gubbmit revealing that space aliens exist & are demons. First of all, this all comes across as yet another conspiracy theory working its way through some quarters of American Evangelicalism.     Second, why would space aliens be demons.      Maybe some are & some aren’t.    So what if some of them are.     Demons are still beings who left their positions of power & authority (Jude).   Most importantly why is a challenge for our faith as Christians?     According to the Bible, the purpose of the created order is to testify to God’s existence, attributes, & authority (Romans 1:18 - 32).    God is not tribal, territorial spirit.     God is universal.     He created everyone & everything every-when-&-where.      That means that if extr...

The Alliance For Defending Bondage

The title of this article at The Christian Post   is misleading. CO did not strike at the Christian bookstore. The Christian bookstore & the ADF are striking at CO. This lawsuit of there’s a preemptive strike. Nobody in the LGBTQ community has complained. Neither has CO.   The ADF is supposed to be about defending Christian values. What is the biblical basis for their litigitiousness? The come across as modern SuperApostles stirring the Corinthian church to go legal war in the public square.  What does the Bible say about giving up precious things to follow Christ? LGBTQ people are regularly told to suck it up, but the ADF defends Christians who refuse to do so, contrary to Luke 14. LGBTQ people must give up their civil rights while the ADF seeks to give their clients a free pass.  What does Mt, 5:22 say about “Racaing” people. God says that’s forbidden. The ADF says, “We’ll see about that!” What does Mt. 5:41 - 48 say about paracleting people with whom we profou...

Tackling Tradition 31: Avoid The Appearance Of Evil

One of the prooftexts often cited by the “Thou shalt not attend the wedding, bake the cake, design the website; take the photographs coaltion is 1 Thessalonians 5:22.  “Abstain from all appearance of evil (KJV).” Other translations state, “Reject every kind of evil.”  They sound exactly like the AI Bot @ Google.  1 Thessalonians 5:22, often quoted as "Abstain from all appearance of evil," is a verse in the Bible that encourages believers to avoid not just evil itself, but also anything that might appear to be evil. It's a call to discernment and responsible conduct, prompting believers to consider how their actions might be perceived by others.  Here's a more detailed explanation:  Original wording:  The original Greek in this verse uses the word "apechesthe," which means "to abstain" or "to keep away from".  Beyond just avoiding evil:  This verse isn't just about refraining from doing bad things; it's about avoiding anything that...

God Will Never Forsake His People

37  Fret not yourself because of evildoers;      be not envious of wrongdoers! 2  For they will soon fade like the grass      and wither like the green herb. 3  Trust in the  Lord , and do good;      dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. [ b ] 4  Delight yourself in the  Lord ,      and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5  Commit your way to the  Lord ;      trust in him, and he will act. 6  He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,      and your justice as the noonday. 7  Be still before the  Lord  and wait patiently for him;      fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,      over the man who carries out evil devices! 8  Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!    ...

Psalm 121

Psalm 121 A song of ascents. 1  I lift up my eyes to the mountains—      where does my help come from? 2  My help comes from the  Lord ,      the Maker of heaven and earth. 3  He will not let your foot slip—      he who watches over you will not slumber; 4  indeed, he who watches over Israel      will neither slumber nor sleep. 5  The  Lord  watches over you—      the  Lord  is your shade at your right hand; 6  the sun will not harm you by day,      nor the moon by night. 7  The  Lord  will keep you from all harm—      he will watch over your life; 8  the  Lord  will watch over your coming and going      both now and forevermore.

THE GLORY OF THE LORD

1  In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. 2  On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin—   3  the word of the  Lord  came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. [ a ]  There the hand of the  Lord  was on him. 4  I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, 5  and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was human,   6  but each of them had four faces and four wings.   7  Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze.   8  Under their w...

Tackling Tradition 30: Defining Gluttony

Tradition: Proverbs 23:2, 20 - 21;  Philippians 3:19. The Bible: Proverbs 23 in context, Ezekiel 16:49,  James, I Corinthians 6, 11; Phil 3:19; Haman, Ahab & Jezebel, Sodom, Pharaoh

Justice Is Perverted

1  The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet saw. Habakkuk's Complaint 2  O  Lord , how long shall I cry for help,      and you will not hear? Or cry to you “Violence!”      and you will not save? 3  Why do you make me see iniquity,      and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me;      strife and contention arise. 4  So the law is paralyzed,      and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous;      so justice goes forth perverted. The  Lord 's Answer 5  “Look among the nations, and see;      wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days      that you would not believe if told. 6  For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans,      that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadt...

The Cost Of Discipleship

US Supreme Court formally petitioned to hear a case touching on marriage equality  In a petition for writ of certiorari filed last month, Davis argues First Amendment protection for free exercise of religion immunizes her from personal liability for the denial of marriage licenses. It’s amazing what lengths some Christians will go to in order to avoid the cost of discipleship.   While insisting that LGBTQ people give up their relationships, their livelihoods, their friendships, & bend to the Christian &/or non-classically “conservative” worldview, they appeal to their alleged religious liberty in order to avoid what the Bible very clearly teaches.   Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:  26  “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.  27  And whoever does not carry their cross and follow...
